FILM?
Film is back baby! Well, it never actually left, but since we live in such a fast paced, advanced world, the appreciation for nostalgia and analog experiences tend to grow - and I'm totally here for it!
With film, every shot counts (you only get 24 or 36 images per roll), forcing us to slow down a little and be more intentional and mindful with every frame. This automatically makes film feel that much more special and sentimental.
Editing trends come and go, but with film, your memories will remain forever timeless. Our parents & grandparents photo albums are evidence to that. The grain, colour, softness, the way it captures light - all add layers of depth and character. It's imperfections are what make it unique and beautiful, just like family life.
FAQ
What should we wear?
Most likely what you already have in your closet is perfect. You could be as casual and comfortable as you like, or maybe a slightly elevated version of that if you wish. Let's keep it simple - you're at home after all. I suggest whatever makes everyone feel most like themselves. Let's aim for an authentic snapshot of this stage of your life to look back on. But if you're feeling stuck, feel free to send me photos/videos of your options, I'm happy to help!
How long does it take to receive the photos?
Film drop-offs will be made to a local film lab in Dartmouth. Once the film is developed and scanned, the high res files are sent back to me to make some final minor adjustments. The entire process should take 2-3 weeks.
Do the photos come already printed?
You'll receive your film scans digitally through a private online gallery, sent to your email - where you'll be able to download them in both web and print quality. You can then get them printed as you normally would any digital photo!
What if my home/yard isn't perfect?
It certainly doesn't need to be (nor do I expect it to be, life is busy!) Maybe there's toys scattered around the yard, you need to re-stain the porch, you have on-going renos, your garden is overgrown, etc. Magic can be made anywhere, and at-home sessions aren't about what your home looks like. They're about all the joy, laughter and memories that are made within it. Your home may go through changes and this season of life will pass - let's celebrate what that looks like now, imperfections and all.
What if my kids don't behave?
These sessions aren't about posing or trying to keep the kids still and smile at the camera the whole time (although we'll still make sure to get a nice one of those). Instead, I encourage you to lean into their energy, let go of roles and expectations - and have fun! The more movement and interaction together the better. When we want them to be a bit more still, bring out a snack or special treat to enjoy, give them a cuddle, piggyback, blow bubbles together, etc. This will take the pressure off, help everyone get into the moment and make for beautiful candid moments to document.
What if the weather isn't ideal?
I will keep my eye on the forecast the day before, and if it's calling for gloomy, rainy weather, you will be notified of a date change to reschedule. Otherwise, if it's just a little overcast, we will embrace it!
