FAQ

How should we dress for our session?

I'm a big advocate of pulling items that you already have in your closet. But maybe this is a good excuse to find something new (or second hand) you were already thinking of adding to your wardrobe. TIP: If you want a timeless look to your photographs, opt for wearing natural fabrics such as cotton, wool, linen, etc.

My main suggestion is to pick outfits that everyone would wear in real life. A good starting point if you're stuck is to think about something that makes sense to the activity or location. But essentially, there really are no rules - bring your own style into it, wear whatever makes you feel most like yourself! Whether that means getting a little fancied up, or throwing on your favourite staple items.

At the end of the day, if your family is 'forced' to wear something they don't like, it may come across in the photos. Have fun with it, let your kid pick something they love if it makes them happy and shows off their personality. I'm always here to help give suggestions if needed.

We don’t feel very confident in front of the camera, is that ok?

No sweat, this is how most people feel! My goal is to make your session feel like we're just hanging out, in a judgement free, laid-back atmosphere. We will incorporate some of the ways you regularly enjoy spending your time together into your session, which helps take your mind off the camera, gets you into the moment and makes for natural, candid photos! Gone are the days of staring straight at the camera and smiling the entire time for your photos. (Although we can still get a few nice ones of those). It's all about the experience and real moments.

What if my home isn't aesthetically pleasing?

It certainly doesn't need to be! Let's just focus on the areas in your home that has the best natural light. Life isn't perfect, and I don't expect your home to be. It's okay for your house to look like kids live there. It tells a story in itself, and one day when they're grown up you'll miss seeing how they used to play and their beautiful chaotic mess of childhood. We can also take things outside and play around the yard or go for a walk around the neighbourhood.

What if the weather is bad?

If shooting outdoors, we can reschedule, or embrace it!
If shooting indoors and it's a dark, gloomy day, I would suggest to reschedule as I rely on the natural light that streams into your home.
I'm always checking the forecast ahead of time to give you a heads up about potential need for rescheduling.

Are you an inclusive photographer?

Without a doubt. No matter who you are or what your love looks like, you're welcome here. Everyone deserves to be celebrated, and I'm here to document memories and milestones with respect, love and authenticity.

Why add film to a session?

Film is back baby! Well, it never actually left, but since we live in such a fast paced, advanced world, the appreciation for nostalgia and analog experiences tend to grow. And I'm totally here for it!

With film, every shot counts (as you only get 24 or 36 images per roll). It forces us to slow down a little and be more intentional and mindful with every frame. This often leads to film photos feeling a little more sentimental and unique over digital.
Nothing beats the timelessness of film. The grain, colours, the way it captures light - there’s a reason why people try to emulate it!

Combining film with digital adds some depth and creative variety to your gallery. Digital ensures we get the quick fleeting moments, while film results in more thoughtful and deliberate imagery.

What can we expect from our gallery?

A downloadable gallery filled with all of the best, intentionally selected photos from the session, optimized for web and print. Lightly retouched (mainly removing temporary skin blemishes and shirt fuzzies), some black & white sprinkled in, and a subtle filmy vibe of artful and candid shots. Most Importantly, an honest documentation of heartfelt moments that reflect the love, joy and connection between you and your loved ones.
